Of the three airports operating within the jurisdiction of New York City, the John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), formerly known as Idlewild, is the
biggest. Located in Jamaica, Queens and around 12 miles away from Lower
Manhattan, JFK is the number one international gateway for the entire
United States, handling around 17% of all international flights coming in
and out of the country. There are approximately 100 airlines from over 50
countries with operations from JFK, most of which coming from London,
Paris, Frankfurt and Tokyo. JFK is also the home base of JetBlue Airways,
and it is also known as one of the major hubs of Delta Air Lines and
American Airlines.
