What's New At Washington Dulles International Airport?

Washington Dulles International Airport is a pretty big airport, occupying a total of 11,830 acres. Its current location in Virginia was specially selected by President Dwight Eisenhower because there was so much space between the airport and surrounding communities. This has helped the airport to maintain good relations with its neighbors up to this day.

Growth of the airport

Washington Dulles International Airport used to be known simply as Dulles International Airport - both names honor the memory of former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. At various points in its history, Washington Dulles International Airport has expanded to meet the needs of air travelers in the region. In 2005, the airport bought 830 acres more with an eye to further development of airport facilities. The current Dulles Development Program (which was initiated in 2000) should culminate with the airport increasing its capacity to 55 million passengers per year at full build-out. This is because Washington Dulles International Airport is currently building an airport rail system, pedestrian walkways, a brand-new Air Traffic Control Tower, a new airport concourse, the fourth runway of the airport, and two additional parking garages.

You can avail of for-pay Internet access within the airport itself. Head for either Gate 7 of Concourse D; Gates C6, C16 or C28 of Concourse C; or Gates B22 and B37 of Concourse B to find the public-access computer terminals. Initial access will cost you $3.50 while each additional 10 minutes costs $4, meaning you may pay around $27.50 per hour in the end. You may change your currency at the Thomas Cook Foreign Exchanges located within Concourse C or D, and at the Business Service Centers in the east and west parts of the ticketing floor of Concourse B, Concourse C, and Concourse D, and also at the Main Terminal.

For wheelchair-bound passengers, you may ask your preferred carrier for assistance within the airport and on the aircraft itself. Other passengers with special medical or health care needs should also inform their airline about what they need at the airport, in the aircraft, and at their destination.
