Progress at the Seattle-Tacoma International AirportThe Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has big plans for its future, all of them good.
Parking options
Paying for parking, for one thing, can go much faster if you use any
national debit or credit card to pay at the parking ticket machines. You
can park your vehicle for the day only, or opt for long-term parking, or
pay by the hour. Motorcycles are also allowed to park in the parking garage
but pay the same rates as automobiles. Wheelchair-bound passengers may ask
for wheelchair and luggage assistance too.
Third runway being built
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is currently paving its third runway
which is expected to measure 8,500 feet in length when completed. The
airport expects to open the third runway for use by November 2008. Seattle-
Tacoma International Airport planners were motivated to build a third
runway to prevent flight delays due to inclement weather.
Low cloud formations are a common problem at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, occurring around 44% of the time, which leads inevitably to flight
delays because airlines have to share one runway for arrivals. This makes
service more expensive for carriers due to additional personnel and fuel
expenses. In turn, passengers have to pay for more days of lodging, food
and related expenses.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport prides itself on the fact that no taxes will be used to pay for the new runway. Instead, funding for the
additional runway has been sourced from federal grants, bonds from the Port
of Seattle, passenger facility fees which are integrated into ticket
prices, and the landing fees paid by the airport carriers.
Environmental mitigation
The people behind Seattle-Tacoma International Airport also initiated steps
to repair the surrounding environment which was neglected by previous
generations. Miller Creek and Des Moines Creek are examples of places which
were brought back to life ecologically. The airport will be looking after
the maintenance of mitigation sites for the next 15 years.
In connection with the construction of its third runway, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport can assure the public that this expansion project
will not have a detrimental effect on federally protected fish found in
waterways beside the airport.
Transportation within the airport
Passengers who need to be transferred from South Satellite to Concourse B
carriers (and vice versa) may opt to ride the train, instead of walking all
the way.
Another way passengers can travel from one end of the airport to the other
is to take the shuttle operating between the south Main Terminal Transit
Station and the north Main Terminal Transit Station. Only ticketed
passengers may use this service though, since it is available after the
security checkpoints. All concourses are linked at present so passengers
may also opt to walk from the south to the north end of the airport (and
vice versa.)
Pampering within Concourse C
If you should be anywhere near Concourse C, you might want to try the
massage services of the Massage Bar which offers 15-minute and 30-minute
massage services to passengers on the run. If you forgot to have your nails
manicured and pedicured, no need to fret - butter London can do these for
you.
With all these new developments, it is apparent that Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is aiming to become a very progressive airport that
travelers would like to return to, again and again.
