San Francisco International Airport is a Child-Friendly AirportMany carriers now use San Francisco International Airport as an air travel destination. Some of the more well-known airlines that travel to and from
San Francisco International Airport are Air Canada, Air France, Air China,
All Nippon, and American Airlines (among others.) In the same manner, many
passengers pass through the airport - including children. With this in
mind, San Francisco International Airport aims to provide enough services
for parents with children to patronize.
Concessions of San Francisco International Airport
San Francisco International Airport aims to provide great dining options
for passengers headed to or from San Francisco, with many of its on-site
eating places being branches of well-known names in the San Francisco
restaurant world. If you run out of disposable razors, make-up and other
toiletries, it is easy to re-stock before your flight by patronizing
airport shops. If luxury gift items are what you are after, San Francisco
International Airport shops have these as well.
Should you encounter medical treatment, there is also a medical clinic that
operates within the airport.
Tightening of security
Like other major airports around the world (especially US airports), San
Francisco International Airport wants its passengers to be prepared for
stricter security inspections prior to boarding their flight. One security
measure that may seem odd but has been imposed in other airports too, is
that passengers have to submit their shoes for X-ray inspection. Though
there will be minor inconvenience, it is advisable to comply with all
security measures and policies so that air travel for everyone will go
smoothly and without problems.
Services provided at the airport
San Francisco International Airport now has a people mover system dubbed
AirTrain which should make your movement from different terminals, the
parking garages, the Rental Car Station, or the BART station go less
arduously. The AirTrain service is provided free of charge.
In Terminal 1, children can spend their time gazing at the aquatic life
found within the three different San Francisco airport aquariums. This is a
service provided in conjunction with the Steinhart Aquarium of the
California Academy of Sciences.
It is possible to rent DVD-format movies for use on the rented portable DVD
players from InMotion Entertainment facilities throughout the airport if
you get bored waiting for your flight.
An interactive exploration facility for children (called SFO Kids' Spot) is
provided at Terminal 3, so that children can take their turn learning about
the weather as explained by the Exploratorium of San Francisco.
Parents who need to change their children's diapers and clothes can head
for the Nurseries found in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Changing tables and
private areas are available in the Nurseries.
Free access is also provided to the San Francisco Airport Commission
Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum. The exhibits at the
airport display facts about air travel (including space travel as well.) If
you want to look at other exhibits, the San Francisco Airport Museums also
hosts various other exhibitions about different topics in the airport.
Being a child-friendly airport, San Francisco International Airport concessionaires have different toys, books, and mementos on sale, while
dining areas offer special menus for picky children.
