Raleigh-Durham International Airport Prepares New Terminal for 2010

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is presently constructing its newest terminal which will occupy almost 1 million square feet of space when it is finished. The airport started work on Terminal C (the name of the facility being upgraded) back in 2006. When done, Terminal C will host new retail and restaurant offerings, while its baggage claim, security checkpoint, and airline check-in areas are expected to offer more space amidst an environment that embraces the fusion of steel, glass and wood interiors.

Existing concessions at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Raleigh-Durham International Airport can serve all passengers with its host of restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, fast food and casual sit-down eating places located within the confines of the airport. Travelers need not worry that airport prices will be astronomical since Raleigh-Durham International Airport prides itself on affordable pricing that matches prices of establishments outside the airport. The same holds true for airport retailers such as CNBC and Brooks Brothers. The airport strives to keep prices of goods at these retailers at the same level as those of off-site retailers.

One unique service at the airport is the shoe-shine service available within Terminal A and Terminal C. The Superior Shine place is located at Terminal A and operates the whole week, while Cash Plaace operates at Terminal C but remains closed on weekends. Plane-watching at the airport If you dig watching planes land and take off, then you will surely appreciate the Raleigh-Durham International Airport Observation Park which offers a great view of the longest runway at this airport. The elevated lookout area allows spectators to hear real-time communication between aircraft pilots and the nearby control tower, making the experience more real for air flight aficionados. After the family has gotten its fill of plane-watching, everyone will appreciate dining at the nearby Crosswinds Caf which is housed within the General Aviation Terminal. The Caf runs from Mondays to Fridays.

Parking options for everyone

If you are planning to park your vehicle for a couple of hours, or for the day, then head for the parking slots which can be reached by walking from the terminals. Hourly slots cost $24 each, while daily parking costs $10 each. The park and ride slots offer shuttle service as well coming and going from the terminals. Park and Ride 3, and Park and Ride 4, have the same rates of $6 each. You will find it easy to look for available slots due to the presence of electronic signs directing you to them. Even people with physical disabilities can get appropriate parking for their needs. If you prefer to use the automated system dubbed ExitExpress, you may be allowed to park within the parking garage sandwiched between the terminals. Both the Park and Ride facilities and ExitExpress permit payment via Discover, Diner's Club, American Express, MasterCard, and Visa (aside from the de riguer cash mode of payment, of course.) Travelers checks may also be used at the parking cashiers, if you prefer.
