Parking is a Breeze at Portland International Airport

Portland International Airport has unveiled a new Parking Guidance System that aims to ease the search for appropriate parking slots in the parking garage by drivers. The Parking Guidance System will inform drivers how many parking slots are open for use in each level. As the driver goes to the level where such parking slots are available, the system relies on more signs, as well as individual space detectors, to show you to your spot. You can tell where the open parking space is by the green light over it.

The advantage of this new Parking Guidance System is that it will help reduce the amount of time you spend driving around looking for a good spot, as well as the fuel which would be used in the search.

The airport has many airlines serving its air travel passengers. Some well- known names in aviation number among these carriers, such as US Airways, United, United Express, Southwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Mexicana, Lufthansa, JetBlue Airways, Horizon Air, and Delta Air Lines.

Electronic Items, Food and Beverages

The new security rules at the airport permit electronic gadgets (such as digital cameras, personal digital assistants, cell phones, and laptops) to be placed with your carry-on baggage. However, laptop computers have to pass through the screening machine without their carrying case. If you are carrying film as well, do not put these in the checked baggage since they may be irreparably damaged. Film deposited in carry-on luggage will not be harmed by the security x-ray machines (if the film falls under ASA/ISO 800 speed standards.)

You can easily buy food and beverages at concessions found after the security checkpoints. You may not bring aboard food and beverages bought before the security checkpoints. If you try to place food and beverages within baggage which needs to be checked at the ticket counter, your baggage may have to be opened and inspected by security since some food items may not pass the screening equipment.

If you intend to carry gifts on board as well, do not have them wrapped prior to passing through security. All wrapped parcels and gifts need to be opened by security for safety. Medical considerations Everyone, including those with medical conditions that require special care, have to undergo screening by security. However, it helps if you have documentation with you about your medical condition for the convenience of the security personnel screening you. For example, people with prosthetics or medical implants may require special security checks, such as looking for traces of explosives in your shoes while you are wearing them - people without disabilities are required to remove both shoes and have these x- rayed.

Bringing pets along on your trip

It is possible to bring along certain pets on board the plane, provided that they are contained within travel carriers inside the airport terminal, and on leashes outside the airport terminal. There is a convenient Pet Relief Center beside the Lost and Found Office (at the baggage claim floor) where your pet may defecate and urinate.
