Memphis International Airport Aims to Become World-Class Air TravelFacility
Memphis International Airport is another example of a public airport in the
US. It is found 3 miles away from the city of Memphis, in the state of
Tennessee. Despite the assumption that Memphis, and Tennessee, are backward
places to have an international airport, Memphis International Airport is
no slouch when it comes to air travel services. In fact, its philosophy at
the moment is to transform itself into a world-class airport by global
standards.
Carriers that use the airport
For one thing, the third-biggest passenger hub of Northwest Airlines is
located in this airport. This hub serves various North American
destinations, and even operates a non-stop international route to Amsterdam
every day. On the other hand, FedEx maintains a Super Hub in Memphis
International Airport that is responsible for much of the package
processing operations of this international delivery company. Due mainly to
FedEx's presence, Memphis International Airport can claim to possess the
biggest airport cargo operations in the world. Another package delivery
company, United Parcel Service, operates its third-biggest sorting center
within Memphis International Airport.
Other airlines that rely on the services of Memphis International Airport
are Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, and American Airlines (among many
others.)
Facilities of Memphis International Airport
The airport which is spread out over 3,900 acres relies on four runways to
accommodate different carriers. It has three concourses that are all linked
to one building.
Short-term parking is offered and recommended for those who use their own
vehicles to pick up travelers disembarking at the airport. The first 30
minutes of short-term parking are completely free.
If you need a bank to do business with while in the airport, do consider
AmSouth which maintains a branch within the passenger connector, sandwiched
between Concourse A and B. This bank operates from 8:30 am to 4 pm from
Mondays to Fridays every week. The AmSouth bank has two ATM machines in the
airport, one right beside the airport branch while the other can be found
at the rotunda of Concourse B. You can use your Pulse, Maestro,
Discover/Norvus, Cirrus, Mastercard, Plus, and Visa cards at these ATMs.
If you prefer Wings Financial Federal Credit Union, you can find its branch
at Ticket Lobby C. It serves the airport community from 8 in the morning to
5 in the afternoon, also from Monday to Friday. The branch has an ATM just
outside while the other is situated at the rotunda of Concourse B. Cards
that can be used at these ATMs are Fast bank, Star, Discover, Amex, Cirrus,
MasterCard, Plus, and Visa.
You may also find additional ATMs within Concourse B and at the Main
Terminal. Other ATMs at the ticket lobby B near the ticket counter of
American West/US Airways are maintained by three different banks.
Help from Volunteer Ambassadors
Memphis International Airport is another international airport that relies
on the friendly and reliable service of its volunteer Airport Ambassadors
to boost customer service one notch higher. If you encounter problems, such
as losing your way around the airport, approach an Airport Ambassador for
much needed assistance. You can tell who is an Airport Ambassador because
he or she carries around a clipboard, and wears a blue sweater emblazoned
with the BLUE SUEDE SERVICE logo. Some Airport Ambassadors can even act as
translators of over 140 languages, if necessary.
