Indianapolis International Airport - US Airport operated by British BAAIndianapolis International Airport may be unique among American airports in that, though it is owned solely by the City of Indianapolis, it is the British air travel company BAA which operates the airport. BAA is known as a British airport operator that currently runs seven airports in the UK in tandem with Indianapolis International Airport. BAA profits by collecting landing fees from the carriers that use Indianapolis International Airport. Right now, Indianapolis International Airport is the biggest airport in the state of Indiana. And as of 2006, it is the sole US commercial airport that is under management by a private company (namely, BAA.) It is considered the state's gateway to other destinations in the United States and throughout the world as well. Major carriers operating at the airport Indianapolis International Airport is served by certain big names in the airline industry, namely, Northwest Airlines, AirTran Airways, and FedEx to name a few.Expansion plans of the airportWork is being done at the west portion of Indianapolis International Airport where a new midfield terminal is projected to be finished by 2008. This new facility will be quite high-tech and feature 1.2 million square feet of space. Eventually, the airport will also be constructing its third runway located south of I-70 though it is not yet certain when that project will be completed. Facilities of Indianapolis International Airport The airport presently maintains four concourses called Concourse A, Concourse B, Concourse C, and Concourse D. Concourse A is home to Gates A1 to A8, while Gates B1 to B6 can be found at Concourse B. Concourse C has Gates C1 to C10, while Concourse D is responsible for Gates D1 to D10. The carriers operating at Concourse A are Northwest Airlines and Northwest AirLink (which is run by Pinnacle Airlines.) Concourse B carriers are Delta Connection, Delta Air Lines, American Eagle, American Connection, and American Airlines. At Concourse C can be found the following airlines: Southwest Airlines, Midwest Connect, Midwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Continental Express, Continental Connection, Continental Airlines, and AirTran Airways. If you need the services of carriers such as US Airways Express, US Airways, United Express, United Airlines, Air Canada Jazz, and Air Canada, then you should head for Concourse D.
Parking at the airportParking need not be a problem since the airport maintains more than 10,000 parking slots for the parking needs of travelers. You can make your choice between the Economy, Tiger, Corporate Connection, Premier Business Class, Surface, or Garage parking categories, whichever is suitable for your circumstances. If you need to wait to pick up passengers or have to drop off someone for his flight, for instance, it is recommended you opt for the hourly or short-term parking options.
