Fukuoka Airport is considered to be a second class airport, with a lot area
of more than three square kilometers. Formerly called the Itazuke Auxillary
Airfield, it was the site of a former US Air Force Base before. It has 4
terminals, the first three dedicated to domestic flights and the fourth for
international flights. There is also a cargo terminal for freight
transport. Operations start at seven in the morning and ends at ten in the
evening to give the residents around it some quiet time to rest and sleep.
Airlines
For domestic flights, they are catered to by All Nippon Airways, Amakusa
Airlines, Japan Airlines, Japan Air Commuter, Japan Transocean Air, and
Skymark Airlines. For international flights, the airlines that service them
are EVA Air, Air China, China Airlines, Continental Airlines, Cathay
Pacific Airways, China Southern Airlines, Air Nippon Airlines, Japan
Airlines, Korean Air, China Eastern Airlines, Bangkok Airways, All Nippon
Airways, Asiana Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai
Airways International, and Vietnam Airlines.
Transport
Fukuoka Airport is one of few airports found in the city proper of Japan.
Its location makes it very accessible to those who would like to travel via
plane to other part of Japan and other destinations around the world. You
can get to Fukuoka Airport directly via the subway, a five minute ride from
the Hakata Railway Station, and a ten minute ride from Tenjin, the center
of Fukuoka city. Shuttle buses are also available for transfers from
domestic to international terminals, and vice versa.
Taxis are also available for the convenience of the passengers. Bus lines
also service the airport and bring passengers to the different stops in the
city.
Parking
The car park in Fukuoka Airport is under the management of Airport
Environment Improvement Foundation. They have 936 parking spaces at the
Domestic Terminals and 897 spaces at the International Terminal. They
charge parking according to the size of the vehicle and how long will their
vehicle stay in the parking garage. For a general sized vehicle, such as a
mini car, an ordinary motor car, or a low displacement car, they charge
�200 every hour within a 12 hour period at the domestic terminal and �200
every hour within a four hour period at the international terminal. The
succeeding 24 hours have a fee of �2400 and �1000 for domestic and
international terminals respectively. The big sized cars such as buses and
trucks are charged �600 for both domestic and international terminals
although for domestic, this is the charge up to 12 hours. For international
terminals, the charge of �600 per hour is for six hours. If they exceed the
number of hours given, then the following 12 to 24 hours will be charged
�7200 for the domestic terminal and �4000 for 6 to 24 hours at the
international terminal. Motorcycles and other motorized vehicles can also
use the parking spaces. They have a charge of �100 every hour until 12
hours for domestic terminals and up to 4 hours for international terminals.
After the second day, same charges will still apply. For passengers with
disabilities, they get a fifty percent discount on all parking charges for
both domestic terminals and international terminals.
