Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport |
|
|
Located between its "owner cities," the cities of Dallas and Forth Worth in Texas, the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is the second
largest airport in the United States, as well as the fourth largest in the
entire world. The size of this 18,000-acre international airport has
merited it having its own post office, ZIP code, city designation (DFW
Airport, Texas) and public services.
As one of the busiest airports in the world, DFW provides services to 129 domestic destinations and 36 international destinations. It has five
terminals, with future plans of expanding to a sixth one. The airport also
serves as the main hub of American Airlines and its sister airline American
Eagle. American Airlines operates Terminals A and C as well as a number of
gates in Terminal D. Terminal B is shared by American Eagle and United
Airlines. Terminals D and E serve the other airlines.
Ground Transport
To move from one of the five terminals to the other, DFW makes use of
Skylink, reputed to be the largest people mover in the world. Skylink is
bi-directional and it allows travelers to catch connecting flights within
seven minutes.
Outside terminal security, people can go from terminal to terminal via Terminal Link, DFW's shuttle service. Terminal Link has drop-off and pick-
up points at the upper levels of Terminals A to C and E, and on the lower
level of Terminal D. On these levels are found the drop-off and pick-up
points for buses, taxis, limousines and other public service transports
operating within DFW.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is among the companies running bus routes between Dallas and DFW. DART's counterpart on the Fort Worth side is the
Yellow Checker Shuttle Co., which runs the Airporter buses traveling
between DFW and Fort Worth.
Another way of getting to and from DFW is by Trinity Railway Express (TRE). TRE travels to both Dallas and Fort Worth, and its terminal is found at
the south end of the airport.
Car Parks and Car Hire
DFW offers three types of car park services: terminal, express and remote.
Terminal parking facilities are right next to the five terminals. The
express parking areas are adjacent to the terminal parking facilities. DFW
provides shuttle services from the express parking areas. The remote
parking areas are a little further off, and DFW has buses running to and
from the remote parking facilities to the terminals.
At the southern entrance of the airport is DFW's Rental Car Center, where the ten rental companies servicing DFW are all quartered. These rental car
services are: Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, EZ Rent,
Hertz, National and Thrifty.
Hotels within the Airport
DFW has two hotels located on-airport, namely, the Grand Hyatt DFW and the
Hyatt Regency DFW. The Grand Hyatt DFW is the one more convenient to DFW
passengers, as it can be accessed by both Skylink and Terminal Link. The
Hyatt Regency DFW, on the other hand, is situated along the International
Parkway. Shuttle service is available to take passengers to the Hyatt
Regency DFW as well as to the other hotels located nearby.
