The Paris-Roissy Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) is one of
the 14 airports managed by Aeroport de Paris (ADP). Not only is CDG the
most important airport of France and the main international gateway of the
country, it is also the busiest airport in the entirety of Europe. Named
after the founder of the French Fifth Republic, Charles de Gaulle, CDG is
located in Roissy-en-France, a commune to the northeast of Paris. CDG is
often referred to in France as the Roissy Airport. There are three
terminals in CDG, and there are plans for expanding to a fourth terminal.
Ground Transport
The three terminals of CDG are connected by the CDGVAL, CDG's free
automatic shuttle service. The CDGVAL also includes in its routes PX and
PR, which are CDG's parking lots, as well as the Roissyple, the area
beside Terminal 3 where the hotels and company offices situated in CDG are
located.
Traveling to and from CDG is possible through various means. The urban
rail network Rlease Express Rgional (RER) has two stations in CDG. One
is the Paris Aroport Charles de Gaulle 1, found in the Roissyple and
servicing Terminals 1 and 3. The other is Paris Aroporte Charles de
Gaulle 2, which is in Terminal 2.
High speed rail service is provided by TGV (train grande vitesse). The
TGV takes passengers from CDG to many different destinations in France and
to Brussels. Travelers going by coach can avail of the services of Air
France coaches, which can take them from Terminals 1 and 2 to Porte Maillot
and the Paris Orly Airport.
Three different bus services are available to passengers at CDG. One is
the Roissybus service, running from Terminals 1 and 2 to the Place de
l'Opera in Paris and back. The other is Noctilien, a night bus service to
and from various places in Paris. The third one is the Airport Connection,
a door-to-door minibus to the center of Paris, which is hired by
reservation only.
Taxi service is provided by Alpha Taxis, Les Taxis Bleus and Taxi G7.
Car Parks and Car Hire
Each of the three terminals of CDG is combined with a covered car park of
its own, which can be accessed to via a lift. There are two long-term
parking lots, PR and PX, which are located a little away from the terminals
but are connected to them nonetheless via the CDGVAL.
The rental car companies that hire out their services to passengers at CDG
are Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt. These companies have
their own kiosks within each terminal.
Hotels within the Airport
CDG has only one on-airport hotel, and that is the Sheraton Paris Airport
Hotel and Conference Centre, located within Terminal 2. Other hotels
within the vicinity of the airport are Kyriad Prestige, Ibis Paris Charles
de Gaulle Aroport, Hilton Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and Sofitel
Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport Roissy. These hotels are made accessible
from the terminal via shuttle buses.
