Paris Orly Airport - Top French International Airport no moreThe reason Paris Orly Airport is no longer the top dog among France's
international airports is because the nearby Charles de Gaulle airport has
been assuming more and more of the load for international flights.
Nowadays, Paris Orly Airport is responsible mostly for charter traffic and
domestic flights to French destinations, though over 30 carriers also rely
on it for medium-haul and long-haul flights too at present.
Services of the airport
Paris Orly Airport has two terminals to serve flights with. Terminal West
serves seven carriers at the most, while Terminal South is responsible for
majority of long-haul flights.
Among the carriers that rely on Terminal West are Turkish Airlines, Swiss
Airlines, El Al, easyJet, and Air Malta. Terminal South is used
predominantly by Air France, with additional flights by TAP Air Portugal
and Iberia.
To get from one terminal to the other, you may use the free shuttle bus
service of the airport. If you need to park a vehicle at the airport, each
terminal offers car park services. You can access the car park of each
terminal through travelator, or lift. Less expensive car parks are also
provided where you can park your car before using the free shuttle service
to head for your respective terminal.
If you seem to have lost something valuable, you might want to ask at the
lost and found booths at both terminals in case someone has returned it.
Unfortunately, an upgrade in security policies has banned the use of left-
luggage lockers. Still, there are other services you could avail of like a
post office, a bureaux de change, and ATMs. If you want food and beverages
before your flight, many restaurants and bars have set up shop within the
airport.
Hotels serving the airport
The Paris Orly Airport has many hotels in the vicinity who can provide
adequate lodging amenities to passengers who disembark at the airport.
Hotels in Paris range in rating from 1-star establishments to 5-star luxury
buildings. Examples of four-star hotels are the Hotel de Castiglione, Hotel
le Meridien Etoile, Millenium Opera Paris, and the Radisson SAS Charles de
Gaulle Airport.
Transportation services at the airport
Car rental services are provided by Sixt, National, Hertz, Europcar, Budget
and Avis.
If you want to try the rail system, get on either the ADP Shuttle or the
Orlyval which will drop you off at some junctions of the Parisian rail
system.
If a cab is what you require, head for the exit of the Arrivals area to
hail one of the many Parisian cabs that can take you to various
destinations, including Paris itself.
Some people may need or want the pampering that comes with a limousine
service - this too is offered by certain companies.
If you want to cut down on transportation expenses, try the bus services of
RATP buses, the Airport Shuttle, Air France coaches, the Jetbus, or the
Orlybus.
If you get confused about what to do with yourself during your stay at
Paris Orly Airport, look for any of the Information and Help Desks which
are sprinkled throughout Orly South and Orly West for much-needed
assistance.
