Belonging to the ranks of the busiest airports in Europe, Dublin Airport
services over sixty thousand passengers everyday, sometimes even reaching
up to eighty thousand a day during peak season, or up to a total of twenty
one million passengers per year. They have more than ninety airlines,
twelve percent of which belongs to chartered airlines, and eighty eight
percent is for scheduled airlines, reaching up to a hundred and fifty
destinations around the world. They have three runways, and two terminals,
one of which is scheduled to be finish construction by 2009. Seventy three
aircraft stands are also present in this airport.
Destinations and Airlines
Owned and managed by Dublin Airport Authority, PLC, Dublin Airport caters
to ninety airlines, including Ryanair, Aer Lingus, British Midlands, Aer
Arann, Futura, Luftansa, and SAS. Frequent flight destinations include
trips to Paris, London, Manchester, New York, Frankfurt, Birmingham,
Edinburgh, Malaga, and Glasgow, with London being the most popular city to
go to, receiving close to five million passengers annually. For the top
country to visit there is the United Kingdom, while New York ranks first in
popular long distance destinations. Forty four airlines are scheduled to
operate in Dublin Airport.
Transport to and from the Airport
Since Dublin Airport is only a 10 km ride north of the center of Dublin
City, visitors may opt to use a car to get to the airport, either borrow it
from a friend, or to rent one from the hotel they are staying at.
Passengers are allowed to get down at a certain set down point at the
outside of the terminal. The departures road can also be a drop off place
although unloading should be quick since the Airport Police does not allow
waiting in this area. To tour the city, car rentals are available via the
information desk.
Taxis are also another way to get to Dublin Airport. They will need to be
dropped off at the Departures Roadway, which is located just across the
terminal building. Should they decide to take a cab from the airport, they
can get one at the forecourt at the Arrivals level road. To get more
information and assistance, a taxi dispatcher is there to help with their
needs. Just remember that these taxis are required to give printed receipts
to their customers, which includes the license number of the vehicle, the
number of kilometers traveled, the amount of the fare paid, the date and
the duration of the trip.
Parking
Since waiting is not allowed at the departures area or arrivals area, it is
suggested that they park at the short stay car park to avoid any
inconvenience. Dublin Airport is open 24 hours, having 3600 parking spaces
for short stay customers, and 14400 parking spaces for long term parking.
The short term parking is located adjacent to the terminal, with entrance
and exit lanes found within it. Long term parking is a 20 minute ride to
the terminal, via courtesy bus.
