This major Turkish airports located near one of the biggest cities in the world - Istanbul. Because of its geographical location Istanbul was target of many wars on the Balkan Peninsula. This is the only town which is spread on two continents - Europe and Asia. The Ataturk International Airport is located in European part of Istanbul and the distance between the airport and the city is 24 kilometers.

Airport is named by the person called "father of Turkey"

Every person in Turkey has the biography of Kemal Mustapha. This is Turkish lieder at the beginning of past century. They call him Ataturk which in translation means - Father of Turkey. This person is significant because of lot of reforms which makes Turkey from orthodox Muslim country into modern European country.

Ataturk International Airport has capacity problems. It is one of the largest cargo airports in the world. Also the number of passengers on this airport soared in the last few years. So the capacity problem becomes one of the main problems for this airport. The management of the airport should think about expansion of the airport before the situation become worse.
